A little GOTV and we will stop the GOP
The polls have been sabotaged by Republicans, so just ignore them
I haven’t posted for a few days because I’ve been doing Get Out The Vote activities.
It’s starting to sink into the polling industry that they have been sabotaged by Republicans. Even the New York Times’s Nate Cohn understands that today’s polls are not what they used to be. Reputable polling organizations have left the field. Republican-leaning organizations have been flooding the polling pool with bad polls (some have margins of error in the 10%-12% range!) that push the polling average far to the right.
After the election—because it would be too useful and rational to suspect Republicans of devious cheating before the election—it will become clear that Republicans have learned how to screw with the polling averages. As soon as a polling organization announces how they are going to segment and analyze the data, Republicans get to work on ways to inject fake data into that organization’s polling. It used to make sense that taking the average of many polls is more accurate. This no longer holds true. Republicans have learned how to make the averages move in their direction no matter what safeguards pollsters put in place.
At any rate, it is too late to pay attention to the polls. And it is folly to get dejected by them—because they are not true. Michael Moore posted information from Democratic insiders yesterday indicating that their internal polls show Democrats way up. So just ignore the polls. Wait till after the election to enjoy the pollsters puzzlement at how they could have gotten it so wrong—again.
Instead of worrying about the polling, do an hour or two of GOTV activity this weekend. Line up four or five friends to car-pool to the polling place on Tuesday. Make sure you have a plan to vote if you haven’t voted already.
I personally like “text-banking,” which is like phone-banking except that you send text messages. It reaches young people, who are already fired up to vote out the Republican monsters, with a final nudge. Here is a list of text-banking activities you can engage in. (Be sure to click on “Text Bank” or “Virtual Text Bank” at the top of the page.)
Each person we can get to vote on Tuesday over and above the massive majority that will already be crushing Republicans is one more dead weight around the necks of those who still throw in their lot with the traitorous, authoritarian Republican party.
For all you Decent Americans who have already voted for a return to sanity, we all thank you.
And for all you Decent Americans who are planning to go out on Tuesday and put a stake through the heart of Republican politics and Trumpist fascism, godspeed.
