Just a short note underlining what I said in an earlier post about next month’s election.
Claire McCaskill, former Senator from Missouri, said this today: “If we have presidential turnout, America’s going to be fine. If we have typical midterm turnout, America’s in trouble.”
As could be expected, the polls and the pundits are now pushing the horserace more and more. Because there are so many polls making so many different assumptions, as well as polls that are designed to skew the results, the average citizen cannot tell whether the horserace narrative really has any evidence behind it.
But whatever the state of the horserace, there is only one thing that matters—how many decent Americans come out to vote.
I can’t imagine that there are not still at least 1-2% of Republicans who understand that our democracy is almost gone. If they come out and vote with Decent America against the MAGA hordes, that will be enough to turn the tide against fascism.
But even if there are not enough decent Republicans left, there must be many more independents who are disgusted by the viciousness and vileness of Republicans and will vote against them. If they come out and vote with Decent America, that will be enough to turn the tide.
And there must be women and young people all over the country who understand that if MAGA takes over, their rights will not be worth a bucket of spit.
So the only issue is whether enough of all these groups will will turn out. Because if they do, the Republican minority doesn’t stand a chance.
We only have a few weeks left to rouse our fellows to action.
Let’s shift into hight gear!
