Decent America halted the expected red wave yesterday.
The decent majority stood up and stopped the twisted Republican minority from running roughshod over our democracy.
The most important consequences are these.
First, democracy lives on to fight another day. Most of the election deniers lost races that could let them override the will of the people in their states. So Republicans will not be able to rerun Trump’s “fake elector plot” in 2024. Decent America has cut off that particular route to destroying democracy.
Second, women and those who love them have pushed back against the depraved Republican mania to make women second-class citizens. Vermont, Michigan, and California have put the right to abortion in their state constitutions. Even ruby-red Kentucky stopped their legislature from curtailing abortion rights any futher. Decent American has put Republicans on notice that it will not let them continue to eliminate rights.
Third, Republicans have been shown to be a bloviating minority rather than a surging majority. They only stay in power by gerrymandering and by abusing the advantage given to the minority in the Senate. And yet they behave as if nothing they want can be denied them. Well, Decent America has denied them the red wave they were so convinced—primarily by their own fake polls and chest-thumping—was their divine right.
These are great achievements. We should be proud of having attained them, especially considering the debasement that Republicans have brought to our politics.
We deserve to savor our wins for at least a day.
Tomorrow I’ll explain why it’s still not enough.
Well said Scott!
