The only way to deal with a bully is to stand up to him.
In the classic 1985 film Back to the Future, the bully Biff Tannen dumps all over timid George McFly.
Life offers us critical moments in which we can reverse the tide of destiny. The ancient Greeks called such a moment the kairos, the turning point on which a determined choice can change everything.
For George McFly, that moment came when Biff was going to rape the girl he loved. George could either do something to stop Biff or remain Biff’s victim forever.
He watched his fist tighten in anger—and then he clocked Biff.
After that, life was completely different. Biff’s bullying days were over and George became a successful author.
Next week’s election is our moment of kairos. The despicable bully Republican party is about to rape our once fair nation.
They think they can laugh at us as they arrogantly display indecency after indecency. What kind of person, for God’s sake, laughs at jokes made at the expense of an 82-year old man who was attacked with a hammer by a Republican-affiliated terrorist? I’ll tell you: a bad person.
If Decent America does not stand up to these depraved Republicans now, in this critical moment, we will let down the nation and consign it to permanent subjection by vicious bullies.
Let us master the kairos. Let us meet this moment with determination. Let us clock the entire Republican party with a huge Blue Wave.
Let us make them a party of Biffs, washing and polishing Decent America’s cars for the rest of their lives.
