The Republican party practices a nasty sort of mind control. It is especially virulent because Republicans have completely internalized the mental motions that keep them under control.
Today’s pusillanimous Republicans have mastered the mental discipline of “crimestop” as defined by George Orwell in Nineteen Eighty-Four. This internalized restraint is, in fact, self-brainwashing. “Crimestop means the faculty of stopping short, as though by instinct, at the threshold of any dangerous thought,” Orwell wrote. It requires several mental incapacities, including the inability to perceive analogies, the failure to detect errors in logic, the reflex to twist the meaning of even the simplest of arguments if it contradicts Republican orthodoxy, and the habit of being repulsed by any idea that might crack that orthodoxy. “Crimestop, in short," Orwell says, “is protective stupidity.”
Nothing explains better the otherwise inexplicable group idiocy of the Republican party now that is has been thoroughly infected by Trump and his MAGA morons.
Nothing explains better why no facts, no events, no arguments, no tragedies can make even the slightest dent in Republican “beliefs.”
Nothing explains better why Republicans cannot see their mistakes and therefore cannot improve. It also explains why they hate those who can improve.
And nothing explains better why Republicans cannot be trusted with our democracy any longer.
Let’s take them out in November.
