Since Trump gave the Republican party permission to support insurrection, more and more Republicans simply behave badly in public—both as an imitation of their alpha leader and out of their own individual scumitude. Now it has reached the point where the perversity of Republicans has turned against America itself.
That Trump has denied the facts of the 2020 elections is no surprise. A spoiled 5-year old who doesn’t get what he wants will always claim that his parents are unfair. Trump is a spoiled brat who has never faced consequences. His followers wish they could get away with that—and they dream that they will get that privilege if he becomes president again.
Like a heat-seeking missle, Trump has honed in on the psychological weakness of his followers to manipulate them to support him. He has created a feedback loop: he acts deviantly in ways that he knows appeal to Republican deviance, thus giving his followers permission to behave ever more deviantly, then he acts even more deviantly because his followers’ deviant behavior gives him even more permission to act deviantly.
A perfect example is election denial. Because Trump has paid no consequences whatsoever for contining to deny the results of the 2020 elections his followers think they can also get away with continuing to deny the result. And because Trump has continually planted the seeds of doubt about the 2024 elections without suffering any consequences, his followers think they can get away with that as well.
Decent Americans are well aware that the results of the 2020 elections were beyond doubt. All reputable and responsible authorities have upheld as the least doubtful in the nation’s history. Every mendacious, frivolous, and deceitful challenge that Trump’s lackeys took to court challenging the results was rejected—some were laughed out of court even by Trump appointed judges. So Decent America, public officials, and the judiciary all know that the 2020 elections were absolutely legitimate.
Trump of course will say anything. He is a liar with so little concern for being seen as a liar that he will deny video of himself lying. But because he lies without consequence, his followers think that they can get away with lying too. So, following their leader, they lie about facts, they lie about their own beliefs, they lie about their own lies.
January 6 was the direct result of Trump’s denial of the absolutely legitimate 2020 election results. He lies about the results and about the reality of January 6 every day, as do his brain-dead, scum-swilling Republican lemmings.
Trump began seeding the germs of January 6 long before the 2020 election, leeching off the self-pitying Republican character flaw that makes them victims in their own estimate. Because they have never been able to convince Decent America to live in their dystopian, autocratic, “Christian” white-supremacist hellscape, they hate Decent America.
It never occurs to them that decent people don’t give them what they want because what they desire is despicable—and Decent people don’t want to live in a society governed by despicable desires.
So now we’ve reached the point where Republicans feel more than justified in tearing down the Republic itself.
The absolute bedrock principle of American democracy is acceptance of election results. In the past, Republicans knew that stable government requires this acceptance, even when the results are so close that reasonable doubt exists about who won. Even Richard Nixon—the paradigmatic crooked Republican—presided over his own loss to John Kennedy when Nixon was Vice President. Of course, Democrats have always held to his standard: both Hubert Humphrey and Al Gore presided over their own losses.
But scum Republicans, now in the MAGA ascendency and following Trump’s reprehensible lead, will no long commit to the principle. [This article](https://www.yahoo.com/news/republicans-signaled-won-t-accept-175908794.html) lists all the degenerate Republican politicians who refuse to let the public know whether they adhere to the bedrock principle of American democracy. The list includes Ted Cruz, Elise Stefanik, Byron Donalds, Tim Scott, Doug Burgum, and Marco Rubio.
Their typical dodge—again following Trump’s example—is to claim that they will accept the results—*if they are fair.*
The fact that no media “personalities” seem to have the wit to ask these scumbags, “What makes you think American elections are not fair?”
Any answer to a question like that would get them in trouble. If they try their MAGA BS about everyone knowing that our elections are riddled with fraud, the followup is, “Do you have evidence of that? Because no one has produced any that has stood up in court and it should be brought to the attention of the authorities.”
I could make a list of such questions, but journalists should be prepared for such opportunities. If you have a whole list that such scumbags can’t answer without looking foolish or worse, it’s much better than one “gotcha” question—which nobody really falls for any more.
And if they refuse to answer all of them, they look like the arrogant, stupid scum they really are.
In the old days, the top journalists didn’t try to polish their own careers—at least not on camera—by asking gotcha questions. They knew that the best way to show up a charlatan was to be smarter than the charlatan and ask questions that would reveal what a charlatan he or she was.
Nowadays, it’s not just the journalists whose poor technique can’t catch these scummers. It’s the large number of people who don’t care whether the person who’s telling them what they want to hear is a ignoramus. But journalists owe it to the rest of us to practice better interviewing. Decent America isn’t taken in by ignoramuses if the press let’s them display their perversity.
We can’t let Republicans destroy the bedrock principle of American democracy.
And we have the perfect tool to stop it: a massive showing at the election, sweeping them out of power for their indecency, their authoritarianism, and their scumitude.
Let’s get out there and stop it—once and for all.
