The lameness of rational liberalism in the face of "conservative" evil
On Morning Joe today, someone was bemoaning the fact that Republicans will no longer accept reality. They prefer to live in their manufactured simulacrum where up is down, wrong is right, and the biggest liar wins the game.
Willie Geist, remarking on this, said that the real question is, Why do so many people refuse to accept reality?
I think that is irrelevant.
Those of us who are rational tend to think that if we know the cause of a problem, we can solve it. That is not always the case.
Whatever the cause of Republican reality-denial, it is going to continue. People don’t stop being wicked just because someone else knows what’s wrong with them. They have to admit that something is wrong with them, see how they would be better off changing, and then go against all their habits and actually make changes.
Republicans won’t even make the first step in that progression. They will never admit there is something wrong with them, even though all decent people can see quite clearly that their behavior is vicious, selfish, arrogant, ignorant, power-hungry, greedy, mean-spirited, and antisocial.
So whether their reality-denial is caused by ignorance, by brainwashing, by tribal collective delusion, or by pure malice, nothing about their behavior is going to change.
That being the case, there is only one thing that can stop the destruction that Republicans are inflicting on Decent America. They must be beaten.
If Decent America could put aside its own squabbles between the far left and the middle left, perhaps it could see clearly that American democracy is only one election away from crumbling under the relentless attacks of “conservatives.”
And if they could see that clearly, they would turn out in insuperable numbers this November and crush every Republican running for any office anywhere in the country.
Making it impossible for Republicans to continue their current hate-filled attack on American values at the very height of their political ecstasy would be the most deserved punishment they could suffer.
And only such a punishment can put an end to unspeakable Republican perversity.
