The permanent GOP minority doesn't deserve its mask of legitimacy
Why should Republicans always get more than their fair share of seats in Congress?
Check out this article that shows an amazing fact: the last time the GOP won a majority of the Senate popular vote was in 1946!
This shows how anti-democratic the Senate is. Now we all know that it was designed to be that way in order to put the brakes on the House. But the fact that it has been controlled by the minority party at all during the past 75 years is blood-boiling.
Note, for instance, that Senate Republicans had their lowest popular vote total in the past three quarters of a century in 2018—only 42.9 per cent! And yet they won a 53-47 majority that year.
The maddening part is that the permanent minority party actually believes it is the majority party—or at least it used to believe that until 2000 or so. Today, Republicans no longer care about the ethics of voting or true representation. Today, they only care about taking power. It doesn't matter to them whether they deserve it.

And imagine all the progress that could have been made if Republican representation matched the popular vote, or was even aligned more accurately with it.
