Someone on Morning Joe today—I think it was Adam Kinzinger (R-IL)—said that Republicans who still support Trump have been lied to for years. The implication was that they wouldn’t still support Trump if they had the real information—and that it’s hard to condemn them for their idiocy.
That is the wrong way to think about Republicans now.
Look, the rest of us know that Trump is as corrupt as a rotting corpse. After watching crime after crime go down, all explained away or blamed on others, never taking responsibility for a single failure of the thousands Trump presided over—don’t you think that a decent judge of human nature would catch on?
I suppose there are such people. The abused woman who keeps being attracted to abusive men. The gambling addict who can’t stop thinking that the next bet will be his big win. The doormat who can’t stop begging to be stepped on.
And the Republican who still thinks Trump isn’t a mega-scammer, scamming Republicans most of all.
But can we afford to let such people, whose judgment is so perverted or vestigial, continue to control the direction of American government? If they really are so deceived by such an obvious fraud?
The truth is, however, that Republicans are not the dupes that some claim. They didn’t, and don’t, back Trump because he fooled them. They actually like the corruption he represents.
They like his bullying. They like his racism. They like his criminality. They like his arrogance. They like his ignorance.
And most of all, they love his ability to get away with everything.
They wish they could get away with everything too. They dream of being able to have whatever they want, no matter how harmful it is to others, and have someone else run interference or be the scapegoat.
These people are not deceived. They are perverse. Ethical monsters. And Trump is their demon-god.
But they are not Trump. They don’t have the megalomania to actually try to get away with over-the-top wickedness. They are afraid of getting caught and being made to pay for the kind of stuff that Trump gets away with.
And that is why Trump must be prosecuted and made to pay for his crimes. It must be publicly clear that Trump, after all, could not get away with it. This will teach warped, twisted, demon wannabes that they can’t get away with it either.
So thinking about Republicans who still support Trump as his dupes and the suckers for his media flunkies is the wrong way to think about them now.
The right way is to think of them as democracy’s decomposers—the maggots thriving on the rotten carrion that once was an American political party.
Thank you much Scott. What about the same trend in Europe? They are much closer to the memories of Mussolini and Hitler and they have not learned a thing. The new possible lady ruler in Italy? And Marie in France. Even women on the far right. They were killed first by the Nazis. Out of the trains, into the gas chambers. We never learn from histody, do we?
Thank you Sir for your comment. I have red several of your books, telling the public the truth and warnings.
