Ready to get disgusted? Listen to this.
In July, Lauren Boebert (ACK!) said this, speaking at a “Christian Conservative” church:
The reason we had so many overreaching regulations in our nation is because the church complied. The church is supposed to direct the government. The government is not supposed to direct the church.
Now of course Boebert is a first-class moron. And so are all the “Christian Conservatives” who listen to this anti-American vomitus and think it is righteous.
There has always been this sort of “Christian” nationalist BS out there in the backwaters. But up until now, it has not been able to make headway with the majority. It is too ridiculously stupid to have attracted political plausibility.
But now there seems to be half the country that thinks this is just fine. Why?
Simple answer: Trump. His outrageous and completely flagrant willingness to flog any sort of nonsense has made it conceivable to the rock-bottom ignoramuses in America that they too can gain political control through the power of their moronity.
More complex answer: The loser mentality that elevated Trump to the forefront of “conservatism.” Because it is complex, this answer requires some unpacking.
Anyone who isn’t blinded by wealth, possessions, power, and boundless arrogance can see that Trump is a massive loser. That is why he hates more than anything the epithet “loser.” But he has a long list of loser traits that put him squarely in that category.
He is utterly and completely ignorant
He thinks the world revolves around him
He thinks he is better than anyone else
He can’t string two coherent thoughts together
He treats other people like dirt
He can’t admit mistakes
He cheats and lies continually
He has to cheat continually because he put himself into the crapper too deep so long ago that any little bit of truth he admits would put him in jail
He abuses women
He is obviously racist because he treats people of non-Caucasian descent differently (although he makes a bit of an exception for those who are willing to be subservient to him)
He is ugly inside and out
And this is just a smattering of his unattractive and cretinous traits. Every decent person can only see him as a pathetically needy and sociopathic basket case. In short, a loser.
So why did the Republican party find itself so terribly, irresistibly drawn to such a pitiful loser?
A superficial reason is Trump’s external trappings of wealth and power. “Conservatives” worship such things, so they overlook his loserdom.
Unfortunately, this reason, which has some grounding in fact, does not go nearly deep enough.
The profound reason is that “conservatives,” in the depths of what passes for their souls, are essentially losers. Trump represents on the external level what they are in their essence. Worshipping him, they worship themselves.
Why, you may ask, are conservatives essentially losers?
As I’ve mentioned many times, the heart of “conservatism,” its animating force, is fear. Fear of others, fear of nature, fear of economic conditions, fear of the future, fear of government. And the single common fear that underlies all these things and more is the fear of losing.
They fear others because they might lose something to them. They fear nature because its power might come down on them and cause them to lose something. They fear economic conditions because they might straighten their circumstances and make them lose something. They fear the future because something new they can’t tolerate might arise and make them lose something. They fear government because its justice might demand they sacrifice for their fellow citizens and that might make them lose something.
Even the “values” that “conservatives” are always howling about are motivated by fear. What they call “freedom of religion” is actually fear of the beliefs of others, fueled by the intolerant, zero-sum notion that respecting others’ beliefs lessens one’s own—that is, causes them a loss. What they call “election integrity” is actually fear of the votes of those who are different from them, who can take society in a different direction—that is, cause them a loss.
Anyone who is that controlled by fear, that driven by the bogey of losing, is essentially and fundamentally a loser.
So “conservatives” worshipping Trump is just raising up an external symbol of their inner selves. They are monumental losers, so they raise up an idol that epitomizes their inner selves.
Why is this all happening now, when for decades “conservatives” have not been able to get much traction for their deluded, loser ideology?
Because they are on the verge of actually losing whatever hold they have on American society, and they know it.
They know they are in the minority. They know that young people cannot stand their selfish bullying, their mean intolerance. They know that red states produce nothing worth having, that red states survive on the largesse of the blue states—which makes them even more spitefully arrogant. They know that only a third or less of the nation wants the regressive policies they want.
In short, they know that their days are numbered. And their lizard brains, unable to come to terms with mortality and the passing of all things, are lashing out in mindless, loser thrashing, hoping to prevent the looming extinction of their loser ideology.
But in life it often happens that the more one pushes to get one’s own way, the more the world pushes back. This is never more true than when one loses all sense of proportion about one’s demands. The universe, it seems, cannot tolerate mad selfishness for long.
“Conservatives” have gone over the edge in this regard. Their joy at overturning Roe v. Wade illicitly, their immediate attempts to move to a national ban on abortion, their sinking into the criminal muck surrounding Trump and the entire Republican party, their glee in trying to strike out at Muslims, black people, LGBTQ+ people, and anyone they suspect of being different, their elation at using the Federalist Society to pervert the justice system, their bold and open attempts to gain control of the election system to simply declare themselves the winners from now on—all these desperate thrashings are turning off Decent America.
The only question is: Will we be pissed off enough by November to deal Republicans the death blow that will finally put a stop to their political evil? Will we be energized enough by November to vote out Republicans up and down the ballot everywhere throughout the nation?
Because if we aren’t, the losers will have destroyed the winning ways of America and will turn it into yet another loser country that only recognizes power and force.
Let’s get out there and turn them into the real losers that they really are.
Kudos! You have nailed the "conservative" mindset! You have put words to what decent Americans have been struggling with since the big, orange blob slimed his way into the White House. Thank you.
