No doubt you’ve already seen Trump’s infamous “Day-one Dictator” remark to Sean Hannity. (If not, the Wall Street Journal has helpfully posted it HERE.)
If you’ve been alive recently, you know that Trump was trying to be a dictator the first time around but was too stupid, too ignorant about government, and too undisciplined to carry it out.
He still wants to be a dictator. Only now, he’s talking about it openly. Is anyone surprised?
The real story here is the response of the entirely Republican audience. They want him to be a dictator. Why?
Two reasons. First, because “conservatives” are degenerate characters. The degrees of degeneracy vary but their fundamental “beliefs” and their innate fear cause them to think and act badly. The longer they are allowed to behave badly and the more permission structures convince them that they can behave badly and get away with it, the worse it is for society. I’ve explained this corruption of the soul fully in my book Conservative Estimate: A Complete Refutation of Conservatism According to Its Own Principles.
The second reason follows upon the first. “Conservatives” have raised up Trump to tell them what they want to hear—namely, that no evil they contemplate is prohibited to them. Now he is telling them exactly what they want and need to hear based on the actual facts of American politics.
“Conservatives” actually “know” that they can never realize their vile and twisted desires of power and domination under American democracy. Decent America, those of us in the majority, are ready to put an end to them at the ballot box. Their own arrogance, deviancy, ignorance, and hateful behavior have pretty much ensured that outcome.
They are therefore heavily invested in denying this reality. As any observer of right-wing media can readily affirm, they lie fiercely, invariably, and brazenly in their echo-chambers about nearly everything that is happening. This is the big-bucks equivalent of a child putting his hands over his ears and chanting “I can’t hear you” to drown out realities he doesn’t want to hear.
So they convince themselves that they are the majority even though they are the minority. That they are righteous even though they are wicked. That they are virtuous even though they are vicious. That they are brave even though they are cowardly. And so on.
But their self-delusion cannot erase facts. They have lost elections regularly in the years since the emergence of the Fox-fomented Tea Party. They have lost even more elections since they raised up Trump—the golem that mirrors their twisted souls back to them. They “know” all this even though they won’t admit it to themselves.
Because of this, they also “know” that American democracy will no longer allow them to have their way. They have gone much too far down the path of deviance for decent people to want them anywhere near power. So they are left with no option but to destroy democracy.
Of course they want a dictator. There is no longer any way for them to “win.” Rather than “lose” (which is the only outcome that will save America), they are more than willing to put a dictator in the White House. Anyone would do, and a shrewder huckster would probably be better—but Trump is their current vehicle. And it’s good for democracy that they chose an overtly repulsive cretin to represent their inner repulsive cretin. It shows the world what they really are. All of this is intensely perverted. But then again, so are Republicans and “conservatives” in general.
Trump is the hideous face of “conservative” deviance, but the heart of it is buried in the demented, fear-filled, warped souls of the Trumpist hordes.
Their political demise cannot come soon enough. We have been suffering petrified government at least since Newt Gingrich made blatant obstructionism a preferred Republican tactic in the 1990s. So the correction is long overdue. And we decent Americans are the ones who have to make it happen.
Let’s just do it 2024 and put ourselves out of their misery.
